Unique in the cultural history of Montreal, Baron Byng High School was built by the Protestant School Board of Montreal in 1921. It was named in honour of a distinguished British soldier, Julian Hedworth George Byng, 1st Viscount of Vimy, who later became the Governor General of Canada.
